Hexham 10k, 19th July 2026
Barely 48 hours rest since the last one, Lynne Cornell was doing another 10k:
‘It was a cooler day than we have been used to over the last few weeks and as we walked to the start (about 1k from number collection) I had a fleece on to stop the goosebumps. Susan, who had sensibly decided not to enter this run after Durham, kindly took my fleece and was then going for a coffee.
I was then questioning my lifestyle choice. As I lined up at the start I wasn’t really sure I was up for this run – this was my 3rd race in 8 days (how does that happen?!!). Ready or not at 10 we were off. However after the first mile my legs started to remember what they had to do and I really enjoyed it – the sun had come out, but it wasn’t sweltering like last weekend at Kingston Park.
This run goes along cycle route 72 to the outskirts of Corbridge and back – the views are nice plus the road surface is good. It’s slightly undulating but nothing compared to Durham on Thursday evening. At about 4.5K, just outside Corbridge, is the turn around point with a much welcome water stop at 5k. I felt good at this point and for once my splits weren’t too bad, for me anyway.
Then it was back along Anick Road, left over the bridge over the Tyne, a sharp left through a pedestrian tunnel under the road, and onto the final stretch to the finish line at Tyne Green. Thankfully some more water, a medal and Susan with my fleece although I had warmed up at this point. I really enjoyed the morning and was pleased to finally get back to a 10k in under 50 minutes.’
Well done Lynne, finishing 2nd in her category in 48:48, well in under that 50 minutes!
