Great Scottish Run, 4th October 2026

Eddie Smith was one of a seven-strong Claremont contingent who ventured north for the Great Scottish Run this weekend (well, technically Ailsa and Harry ventured west, having already moved to Edinburgh!). He kindly sent this report:

“The Great Scottish Run Sunday started with an early morning 10k, followed by two separate half marathon groups of three waves. In total, there were about 35,000 people pounding the streets of Glasgow.

Both distances started on one the iconic, long, straight, city centre streets. There was an early downhill section before an initial crossing of the Clyde via a motorway bridge with traffic in the other lanes. The half marathon route took in one of South Glasgow’s country parks, where shaggy highland cattle looked on. Both distances ended with a flat riverside run, including three further crossings before a finish at Glasgow Green.

The runs were well organised, with the separation of the half marathon into two groups limiting the waiting time in the later waves. Spectators were supportive and the routes were fairly flat, apart from some undulations in the country park.

Claremonters had a successful weekend with personal bests or second bests all round!”

Indeed, all the other sky blues did seem to enjoy it. Harry Mawdsley said: ” 40 sec PB. Half marathon redemption! Executed it exactly according to plan so very happy with that.”, and Ailsa Ralph seemed chuffed, saying: “Over the moon with my time, don’t get me wrong, but I was frustratingly close to sub 2 hours… next time, lads!”
