A smatter of tourism today, most notably by Claire Taylor, following Lucy Keating’s lead last week with a trip to The Netherlands. Claire ventured much further south however, to Brasserie Tapijn in Maastricht on the Belgian border.
Back in the UK, it was also another consecutive week with a Claremonter running on a Scottish island, Chris Jones landing on the west coast of the Isle of Bute at Mount Stuart. On the day their rugby team were to agonisingly lose the Super League Grand Final down the road in Manchester, Aoífe Monaghan and Jack Shawcross were in Warrington, while a little further south, Holly Porter revisited Tamworth Castle Grounds. Lena Lou took a spontaneous trip to the Lakes, to sample the infamous muddy ‘travelator’ on Whinlatter Forest’s unforgiving B-course.
This month’s club tourism featured only a small trio of myself, Cate and Katherine, heading a short distance to Oakey Park in Stanley. On parkrun’s 22nd birthday, the called-for tutu’s had been donned by many. Cate and I were making our second trip here, and once again recommend a pleasant course, an early brutal-but-brief climb being offset by plenty of downhill, great views and an enthusiastic set of volunteers.
Joining me this week in tasting a course PB were Sarah Taylor at Denton Dene, and Elizabeth O’Mahony at Ushaw Historic House. Catherine Young and Heather Steel ran not dissimilar times to both finish as 2nd lady, at Fulwell Quarry and Gateshead respectively. After a quieter week last time out, no fewer than 13 Claremont members ran at Leazes.
