Couch to 5K Free Training Programme

Our latest Couch to 5K group graduated at Leazes parkrun on 6th December 2025. Well done to all who took part – we hope you enjoyed it, and keep on running. Please note that no date has yet been set for the next course. It is likely to be some time in 2026.

Off the Couch with Claremont

Want to try running but don’t feel fit enough or know where to start? Tried running and not enjoyed it or struggled with motivation?

If YES, the Claremont Couch to 5K programme is perfect for you. We will take you from a complete beginner to running a 5K Parkrun without stopping.

We provide a friendly and supportive group to guide you through the 9 week NHS programme. The course consists of one session per week (Wednesdays at 6PM) with two homework sessions to complete in your own time. We start by mixing walking with gentle running, and each week we increase the amount of time spent running. There is no minimum speed, and we can support all abilities and fitness levels.

  • Advice, guidance and support from experienced coaches
  • A Strava group to share updates and progress 
  • A ‘graduation’ 5K Parkrun at the end of the course 

We hope you will continue your running journey after the end of the programme. For runners who wish to progress further, you may be interested in joining Claremont as a member. Our weekly club runs are generally 8K in length with progression encouraged. There is no pressure to do so, and running 5K continuously is a huge achievement in itself.
