Claremont Summer Club Handicap (25th July 2011)

On a lovely dry & warm evening the Club Summer Handicap provided the added interest of the participation of several of Cathy Rooney’s ‘Huffers & Puffers’ group.

Once again, Graeme Taylor provided the best time of 15:45, just 10 seconds down on his run on the same course in May, and 13 seconds outside the course record.  Graeme’s  time was followed by that of Brendan McMillan (16:54) & Keith Smith (17:35).

For the ladies, the best times were recorded by Megan Murdoch (20:38), Sarah Bowen (21:01) & Kate Sergeant (22:12).

Allan Nielsen (31:40) led the field home to win the Cup, followed by Rutger Zietsma (32:15), who followed his win in May with another fine run.

Sarah Bowen was the best-placed female, and her 6th place in the race enabled her to secure the Shield for a fine series of runs over the last 4 handicap races.

As always, the Dave Manners’ diligence in setting an accurate list of handicaps, and the help of a large band of officials & marshals, ensured a safe and exciting race – thanks to all.

An enjoyable evening was concluded with food, drink & plenty of chat at the Café de Vie.
