Rose Hawkswood Beer Mile, 14th July 2022

The madness that is the Rose Hawkswood Beer Mile is now an established event in the Claremont calendar. For the uninitiated, a beer mile involves drinking 4 cans of strong beer and running 4 laps of the track as fast as you can.

Eight idiots intrepid sky blues turned out at City Stadium on a balmy Friday evening. Arthur Liu acted as starter and timekeeper, and the shenanigans began with the opening of cans and downing of beer. Kris Axon’s choice of Guinness seemed to work well and, although he was not first away, he was soon in the lead, never to be caught. His overall time of sub-8 minutes is probably faster than I could have drunk the first can – seriously impressive!

Sonam finished in 2nd place for the second year running, and Jose narrowly held off a sprint finish from Fred to claim 3rd.
