Norman Woodcock Relays, 6th November 2022
In what was a busy weekend for Claremonters, we had no less than 15 runners making up five teams for the Norman Woodcock Relays, hosted by the Elswick Harriers over at the Newcastle Racecourse. It was a cold Sunday morning, but we were greeted on arrival by a beautiful rainbow, which helped encourage us all to get around the 1.66-mile track as quickly as possible.
A mixture of first time relayers (myself included), runners new to this course and seasoned relay-racers gave a fantastic performance, with many people’s Strava recording personal records on 1 mile and 1k times. Despite a lot of comments on how tough it is to pace yourself in this type of distance and how difficult the course felt (probably predominantly from me), everyone was in good spirits by the end, especially once Tom’s crumble started doing the rounds!
A special bark-out to Wanda, José’s very friendly dog, who motivated and cheered everyone before and after the race.
