An eventful parkrun Saturday for the sky blues, with milestones, PBs, birthdays and plenty of representation across the North East and further afield.
Several course PBs to go round, Marie Slack at Leazes, Izzy Neatrour at Jesmond Dene and Alex Harding in Durham.
There was something in the air this weekend, as the UK women’s parkrun record was broken in Long Eaton with a speedy 15:37min 5k. Clearly our ladies felt it as we had two Claremonters in the podium, Izzy as 2nd lady over in Jesmond and an absolutely outstanding performance from Sarah Kerr, with a course and overall parkrun PB at Town Moor, finishing as 1st lady at 19:35min!
Some podium finishes from the men as well, with Lucas and Fred finishing 2nd and 3rd over in Western Australia, and Mark Anderson finishing 3rd a bit closer to home in Jesmond Dene.
Over at Leazes Nina Jentl was celebrating a very impressive 100th parkrun!
The parkrun tourists were back at it with a trip to Durham, where we celebrated Lena’s 25th birthday by running the course together and taking multiple group pictures with a very beautiful backdrop of the Cathedral. A really picturesque course, with lots of fun elements to it, two bridges to cross, an arch to go under, and enough mud to make us all regret not wearing trail shoes. It felt like a momentous day for Durham parkrun, with one of its founders celebrating their 500th run and 350th volunteer stint!
