Druridge Bay Trail 10k, 28th May 2023
For some runners, ‘rest’ is an ugly word. Kimberley Metson and Lynne Cornell are two such people, seemingly entering every available race going. Today they were running a beach trail 10k at Druridge Bay. There would have been a sense of déjà vu for Kim, having already run a 10k there back in January (“a different route this time, now two lengths across the beach”).
From a field of 129, both finished impressively high. Lynne had some words on the experience:
“It was a sunny morning at Druridge Bay as we arrived to collect our numbers in time to get to the beach for the start. When I arrived I bumped into Kimberley Metson who had been there the previous day for the Parkrun.
At 10:15 we all set off to walk to the start on the beach including Tigger and Spider Man!!! At 10.30 we were off across the start line drawn on the sand.
The first mile is on the beach and the going was soft to firm this year with a very helpful breeze pushing us along. Then up through the dunes and along roads/tracks around the park with not a breath of wind. Lots of marshals who were very encouraging.
Finally back onto the beach for another mile-this time the wind in our faces, not quite so helpful. Then the final push along the road/tracks near the visitor centre with the last little bit on grass.
This is a lovely run and it truly is multi-terrain-sand, tracks, grass, road. Well done to Kimberley-she was 2nd female and 12th overall and according to her Strava a new PB.”
Lynne herself was 7th female and a brilliant 1st in her age category. Great running both!
