Bamburgh Castle 10k, 11th June 2023
On a muggy and overcast Sunday morning, Lynne Cornell was already putting the memory of Blaydon behind her, running a 10k in the shadow of Bamburgh Castle:
“When I arrived at the cricket pavilion in front of the castle to collect my number it was quite cool and I thought lovely!!! By the time we lined up outside the Lord Crewe Arms at 10 for the start it had warmed up a fair bit and the sun was threatening to come out.
Then we were off up Front Street to the Victoria Hotel, where we turned left into Ingram Road. The route is a circular route on roads with very high hedges with no views (well, for someone as short as me!) and eventually comes back to Ingram Road where we were rewarded with views of Bamburgh Castle.
The route is described as flat, and generally it is, although someone at 8k did ask me when there was going to be a downhill!!! There is a lovely downhill to the finish where a much needed bottle of water was waiting.
The sun didn’t come out but it was humid. Then back to the pavilion for a cup of tea and a piece of millionaire’s shortbread!!!”
Jack Shawcross also took part, running another swift time to match his Blaydon exploits.
