Beverley Westwood parkrun, 1st July 2023
It is always nice to hear of parkruns (and races) from around the country, so many thanks to Lucy Keating for sharing her experience of the parkrun in Beverley, in what was the East Riding of Yorkshire.
“Beverley Westwood is a two lap course entirely on grass (an historic pasture land next to the racecourse), a terrain I found rather energy sapping, having walked 20km to Beverley the previous day, along the former railway line from Market Weighton. As the song goes, I felt it in my hamstrings, I felt it in my toes….
The parkrun route features a descent of the enigmatically named ‘hill 60’, followed by an immediate ascent. However, once at the top, you are soon rewarded with great views of Beverley Minster, and a pleasing downhill section on short grass. A friend had warned me that there were plenty of cattle on the course, but I wasn’t too worried, being a veteran Town Moor cow whisperer. However, the East Riding cattle were much more…. inquisitive and numerous than their Geordie counterparts, ambling across the course and cheerfully munching away at the parkrun signs (see attached photo).
Parkrun done, my sporting day continued with a short hop to Hull to watch our adopted rugby league team (Catalans Dragons from France) cement their position at the top of the Super League with a victoire magnifique!
Thanks as always to the cheerful parkrun volunteers.”
