Run for All York 10k, 6th August 2023

Saturday’s torrential rain cleared up overnight, leaving Lynne Cornell with pleasant conditions for running in York today:

“A lovely trip to York to do the 10k. I was meant to be doing the Middlesbrough 10K at the beginning of September, but my husband booked a holiday for then (!) so I decided to switch my entry to York instead.

Early start, but we got there in plenty of time to park the car, walk to the start and drop bag, but obviously not enough time to check my laces which became untied 1 mile into the race!!!!

The race starts on Knavesmire Road near the racecourse, and the first 2 miles are through residential streets, including Nunnery Lane where there is a lovely view of part of the Walls, through the gateway in the walls at Micklegate Bar, over the river at Ouse Bridge, past the shops and the Mansion House in Coney Street, past Betty’s Tea Rooms (no Fat Rascal for me today I’m afraid!) and onto the Minster where the bells were ringing.

Then along Goodramgate and down to the river Ouse at King’s Staith, where the City Cruises leave from. Beautiful run along the river to the Blue Bridge which then leads to New Walk on the riverside. Across the Millenium Bridge to Rowntree Park, through the park to Bishopsthorpe Road and a loop which included the old Terry’s factory, then back along Campelshon Road to a loop on Racecourse Road and the finish on Knavesmire Road.

A really good route through some lovely parts of York. Husband not too impressed with the chocolate in the goodie bag from the Chocolate City!!!!”

Despite her loose laces, Lynne still crossed the line in a great time of 48:22, finishing well inside the top 20%, and coming 79th out of over 1600 women. Well done Lynne!
