NS Poly GP, 5th December 2023

After a weekend that saw parkrun in the north east all but wiped out by snow, and a Monday of non-stop rain, we had… surprisingly good conditions for running this Tuesday. Nippy, but dry, with little wind.

We had our second best turnout of the season so far, with only 2 Claremont runners absent. From a field of 182, Dave Roberts crossed the line in a brilliant 3^rd place, the highest finish by a light blue this season, with Kat Truong not far behind in 7^th. No doubt the handicappers will be out to take them down a peg in the new year.

The fastest runner on the night took another 3 seconds off his own course record, but many Claremonters also put in strong performances, not least Izzy Neatrour, finishing as 3^rd fastest woman.

Izzy’s impressive teammates (providing 5 of Claremont’s 10 highest finishers) added to her efforts, The 3rd Wheelers swapping places with Rock’s Stars (3^rd) to sit at the top of the table after four events! Not to be left out, The Full Claremonty climbed two places to 7^th, leaving all three of our teams in healthy positions as 2023 draws to a close.

In the individual table, it was about 50/50 for our runners either climbing or dropping. Kimberley Metson retains her top 10 status, despite dropping from 2^nd to 7^th. She has however been leapfrogged by Holly Porter, three consecutive top 20 finishes propelling her into 4^th place. Dave’s podium finish this month sees him as the highest climber, improving a massive 75 places.

Several of us headed off afterwards to the familiar warmth of the Toby Carvery, for some well-earned indulgence. Thanks once again to Gill for the raucous, rattling support!
