Tour de Humbleton Trail Race, 27th December 2023

With Storm Gerrit rampaging across the north of England, I suspect that a trail race in the Cheviots wouldn’t have been the choice of run for most of us. But some Claremont Road Runners are made of tough stuff and Eric Adams, Sarah Kerr and Isabel Neatrour all made their way up to Wooler to take part in the Tour de Humbleton trail race. This 4.9 mile route includes a circular tour of Humbleton Hill and a total of 774 feet of elevation.

Despite a slight detour for a wrong turn, Sarah and Izzy both had good runs, finishing 3rd and 5th females respectively. The pair had recently tried a night time trail run in Blanchland, and this was Izzy’s response when asked to compare them:

“It was p**s easy compared to Blanchland. The weather was brutal but I didn’t fear for my life once! The ability to see is so useful when running off road.”

A video of the event can be seen here where you can see just how bad the conditions were.
