It was a warm, pleasant morning for parkruns this week and, even though there were some resting ahead of the Pier to Pier race, there was still a good number of Claremont Road Runners out for their weekly parkrun fix.
Surprisingly, the best turnouts were at Gateshead and Whitley Bay with 4 runners, though only 3 finished at Whitley Bay with Peter Henderson deciding that discretion was the better part of valour and stopping due to injury. Jesmond Dene was the place to be for PBs with Mark Anderson and Howard MacLennan running their fastest times there – Mark’s time being good enough to give him 2nd place. Chris Jones claimed the only other PB of the week at Herrington Country Park.
Lucy Ward found the hills of Blackhill Park in Consett a bit of a challenge compared to the flat course at her home parkrun of Tyne Green, but that didn’t stop her from getting a place on the podium as 3rd lady.
On the tourism front, Clare Taylor ran in the shadow of the magnificent Conwy Castle on the beautiful North Wales coast, while there was a rare parkrun outing for Kim Collings and Elaine Wharton who were spending the weekend in Sheffield, mainly to see Bryan Adams. No doubt fuelled by cocktails from the previous evening, Kim and Elaine parkwalked around Endcliffe Park, becoming the latest Claremonters to visit Alex Harding’s “home” run. Alex was on the tourist trail himself, running at Oriam on the campus of Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh.
