Angel View Run, 30th May 2024

Lynne Cornell swapped the sands of Druridge Bay for the hills of Low Fell this evening:

“I did this run for the first time last year and enjoyed it so much I thought I would give it another go. The pre-race email advised it would be a slightly different course although it would still be 2 laps on a range of terrain and included a warning that ‘due to recent rain the bottom part of the course is soft!’ The different terrain still included grass (still lots of it), tracks, road, woodland, and a tunnel under the A167 plus lots of added mud and water this year due to the rather damp weather we have had recently! The course this year was 5.7 miles instead of 5.59 so not a huge difference and the ascent was exactly the same! 163m.

We collected our race numbers from race HQ at the Angel View Inn and listened with interest as people debated whether to go with trail shoes or not. I’d already decided to go with trail shoes and was glad I did. Slightly cool and breezy as we lined up at the start which this year was next to the Angel itself.

2 laps which starts with a run on grass, then Cowan Gardens onto a track, through a tunnel under the A167 up a hill on grass and tracks near Harlow Green, down the hill on tracks, back under the tunnel into a very muddy wood arriving back on grass near the start for lap 2. The finish this year was right next to the Angel which was excellent. The marshals were fantastic-so supportive and cheering everyone.

Medal and water collected it was back to the Angel View Inn for a buffet laid on by Low Fell Running Club. This year curry and rice, which made a delicious change from sandwiches, pork pies etc..
A really good evening-well organised and most enjoyable.”

Lynne came 1st in her age category in a time of 50:30, winning a cash prize. Well done Lynne!
