Morpeth 10K, 2nd June 2024

The running machines that go by the names of Nina Jensen and Lynne Cornell were wound up and let out on the roads again – this time running the Morpeth 10K. Here is Nina’s report:

“Only 2 of us representing the Claremont sky blues in the Morpeth 10k. After the demise of the Morpeth 10k a few years ago I was pleased to see a new race in my home town appearing on the racing calendar. Run Through have recently started to put on races in conjunction with local clubs and raise the events to another level and this one was no different. Closed roads, and event village and well supported, although I do think the marketing of fast and flat was a bit misleading and any runner who didn’t know Morpeth might be demanding their money back!

As with other Run Through races there was an A and B race with entry into the A race being aimed at those who can do a 5k in sub 20 mins. Those speedy racing snakes set off first with our race starting at the Morpeth clock Tower 25 mins later before running up Newgate St and then down Dogger Bank onto Morpeth Road. The sun was in full force although there were pockets of shade along the route which was and out and back beside the river x 2. This meant you got to see the rest of the field and could look out for familiar faces whilst trying to forget you had to run back up a short steep hill and then down Newgate St only to turn and repeat once more. The sunshine meant the race was well supported right along the course and plenty of marshals and a water station at half way. The finish was a nice slight downhill with a sharp left turn onto Bridge St where there were medals and snacks plus a welcome bottle of water.

Would I do it again, most definitely!”
