Lindisfarne Half-Marathon, 4th August 2024

The “Run the Raid” Lindisfarne Half-Marathon is a brand new race, and it looks like being a great addition to the North East running calendar. Nina Jensen and Marie Slack (although running in her first claim South Shields vest) were the first Claremont Road Runners to give it a try. They certainly enjoyed it, as Nina tells us here:

“As Marie and I stood in Spittal Car park for the Inaugural Lindisfarne Half, surrounded by around 250 runners, the compere announced that some people may wonder why Fylde Coast Runners were hosting an event not on the Fylde coast……just look around you she said….some of you may know Blackpool and we don’t have this! She’s not wrong, we’re really lucky in the north east to have some fantastic stretches of coastline and this run did not fail to delight. Starting to the sound of some very atmosphere music that wouldn’t be out of place on Game of Thrones and we were off. The course mainly followed the Coastal path except for a part at Goswick, where due to the area being a designated site of special scientific interest, we instead ran along a walkers’ path that was through waist height sea grass. Once around the golf course, we then followed Route 1 bike path to Beal, before the 4 mile causeway onto the island. The run was a feast for the eyes all the way and once on Holy Island we ran through the village before a steady rocky climb with views of the castle before dropping down into the harbour and finishing just in front of the priory. Fantastic event. Watch out Coastal run, there’s a new kid in town!”
