This week’s Claremont parkrunners managed to cover 3 different countries and even travel overseas, while all still remaining within the borders of the UK.
Aoífe Monaghan was at a sunny Belfast Victoria with Jack Shawcross, while Mr and Mrs Smith were just a couple of miles across the city at Ormeau, the site of the Belfast marathon finish line. A third couple on their ‘foreign’ travels were Tom Tinsley and Gill Milne in Scotland at University of Stirling (the second Claremont visit here in as many weeks), a scenic route by all accounts, and a popular one for north-east alphabet completionists. Somewhat further west, David Devennie was also north of the border, parkwalking by the sea at Largs Prom.
The lesser-spotted Connor Bluemel could be found about as far away from David as it’s possible to get without crossing a body of water, completing only his second-ever parkrun in a PB time, at Walmer and Deal Seafront in Kent.
Back in the North-East, a further 9 parkruns were visited by our runners. After a turnout of 11 at Leazes last week, there were no Claremonters running there this time out, due to enforced cancellation by an event occupying the park. Near-namesakes Nikki Szlovák and Nicki O’Brien were 1st and 3rd woman at Riverside and Jesmond Dene respectively, and there were course PB’s for Zoë Jukes at Town Moor, and Claire Taylor at Fulwell Quarry. Our largest contingent was actually a trio at Tyne Green in Hexham, with both David Lydall and Lucy Ward joining the course PB roll-call.
