Another weekend, another spread of sky blue around the country as Claremont Road Runners attended no fewer than 18 different parkruns. Rose Hawkswood was down in Swindon, Luke Woodend collected an “O” in South Yorkshire, Arthur Liu celebrated his 50th parkrun in his native Cumbria, and Alex Anslow was running near her new base in Norfolk.
Also turning up in Norfolk was Cath Robson as she continued her tourism streak: “I’m on a mini parkrun roll with a trot round Sheringham in North Norfolk on a dull grey November morning. It’s a ‘lollipop’ out and back trail route through deciduous woodland which is managed by the National Trust. For the second week running it turned out to be a birthday celebration (12th anniversary) and imagine my joy when the race director announced that, for one week only, Heartbreak Hill which was part of the original route had been reinstated. Downhill first mile, roughly level second and then back up for the return on firm but uneven tracks which were covered in sweet chestnut and beech leaves saw me slower than last week but remarkably first in my age category and second in 60+ women so cross country experience must have paid off. Phew – back to volunteering for a while now I think!”
Aoife Campbell was also on the tourist trail, where, along with her brother, they were celebrating their father’s birthday by running at Storey’s Fields parkrun in Cambridge – and they celebrated in style. All 3 got course PBs, and the brother came first! Great run, Aoife, but you’ve still got some work to do if you are ever going to catch your dad!
Nearer home, Fulwell Quarry was the place to be with a 100% PB record for Claremonters (OK, there were two, but well done Catherine Young and Claire Taylor). Izzy Neatrour claimed a PB along with a 3rd female finish at Jesmond Dene, and Niki Szlovak was also 3rd female, this time at Riverside.
Unsurprisingly, the largest turnout was at our “home” of Leazes Park. Perhaps more surprising was that we had first male and female there – Mark Anderson and Kim Metson. Mark also ran a PB.
