My boomerang won’t come back!
More news from the Claremont colony down under … Maria Duenas sends us this lovely tale of parkrun tourism and a boomerang:
“I had the chance to do some parkrun tourism in Melbourne today and was handed a boomerang!
If you haven’t heard the story (I hadn’t until today), here’s the summary: in June, 10 boomerangs began their journey at South Beach parkrun in Perth. Each one was sent off to a different location overseas, handed from one parkrunner to another, with the goal of eventually making their way back home. Every person who receives a boomerang documents their week with it before passing it along.
The boomerang I received is the closest to completing its journey! Unfortunately, I can’t make it to South Beach parkrun next week because I’ll be running a 50 km ultra starting at 2 am. But now I’ve got the added challenge of squeezing in an 8 am parkrun to pass the boomerang to the South Beach race director (who’s turns out is just as crazy and planning to do both the ultra and parkrun too!).
Sorry for the long message, but I thought some of you might enjoy this very eventful parkrun tourism.”
Thanks for sharing this, Maria. It is a great story, but there is one thing that is worrying me. Running an ultra that starts at 2am? Have you been spending too much time outdoors in the Western Australian sun? Seriously, hope it goes well and let us know if you manage to deliver the boomerang safely back home.
