I’ve said it before, but we do get about, don’t we? Fifteen different parkruns for us this week, and that in a week when neither the Town Moor nor Whitley Bay were on.
It was a lovely, sunny morning in the North East, and Gill and I travelled to Cotsford Fields in County Durham, where I finally became a pirate – yo,ho,ho and a bottle of rum! It is a lovely course – 2 laps, mainly on gravel paths but with a stretch on grass – and you are treated to great views along the coast for a long stretch on each lap. If anything, the weather was too nice, as the bright, low-lying sun meant that you couldn’t really look out for long without having to shield the eyes. Should have worn sunglasses!
Roberto Marzo was 3rd at Denton Dene, while Jesmond Dene saw a couple of 2nd place finishes – Izzy Neatrour was 2nd female and Mark Anderson 2nd overall. Mark also ran a course PB.
While most of us stayed relatively local, there was a bit of tourism. Chloe Glover was in Leeds getting a PB at Roundhay park, Aaron Mansell headed west to Penrith and Anthony Darne went south to that there London to run 5 laps of a field in Highbury. It looks as though not everywhere had the same good weather as we had, Julie Cross described it as “Blustery on the prom” at Prestatyn in North Wales, though the wind didn’t stop her running a course PB and finishing as 3rd lady.
Meanwhile, down in Bromley to support his beloved Carlisle United, Luke Woodend found time to complete his 400th parkrun. Well done on achieving this impressive landmark, Luke, and hope you are happy with a point away from home!
