This was the 4th year running that Claremont has provided a feed station at this Great Run event. Kim and Elaine haven’t been able to volunteer for us this year due to extra responsibilities at NUFC so they were at St James Park watching Ipswich get relegated (Sorry Laurie). So new recruits Bill, Becky and Sue stepped up to help the regular gang of myself, Tom and Paul J and a fantastic job they did too! Becky’s enthusiastic tambourine skills were much commented upon – at one point Sue joined her to form a duo. Definitely brought back memories of Lorna for those of you that know her. Bill was much more successful than I was last year at stopping people going the wrong way along the waggonway so I stayed very firmly on the food prep side along with Tom & Sue. Paul did his usual efficient job of guiding people to the feed station without getting lost in the car park.
The fine weather was good for us but not for the runners with many commenting that at 15 K in they were already too hot. First Claremont runner to the feed station was Nina Jensen aka the Running Machine. Not far behind was Arthur Lui so Spring has definitely arrived (Arthur was using this as preparation for The Wall!). As Clare Taylor was doing the 25K course we didn’t get to cheer her on unfortunately!
So a lovely morning followed by brunch in Wylam (with a few more pizzas for the club paid for via our volunteer donation) plus a weekend of football (sorry again Laurie) and the London marathon to look forward to. Perfect!
