parkrun this weekend gave us an opportunity to bid farewell and good luck to Nikoletta Szlovak as she sets off for a new life in Switzerland, via her native Hungary. A number of us descended on Riverside in Chester-le-Street, Niki’s local parkrun, to have a final run together in the sunshine! Despite the hot and humid weather, or perhaps because of it, four of the group ran course PBs, even more surprising as 7 of us were there for the first time.
As well as the departure of Niki, the North East also saw the birth of a new event – the splendidly named Heritage Coastal Path parkrun, in Easington, County Durham. Aoife Monaghan and Jack Shawcross were at the inaugural event, with Jack finishing 2nd overall, and Aoife 3rd female.
There were no PBs outside of Riverside, but Catherine Young claimed the 1st female spot at Fulwell Quarry, and Roberto Marzo was 3rd at Prudhoe.
Not a lot of tourism this week, but Cheshire’s Delamere Forest is proving to be a popular destination for Claremont Road Runners, with Dave Roberts being the latest to try this scenic course. Keswick is another popular venue, and Claire Taylor and Heather Steel ran there this weekend.
