The Northumbrian, 29th June 2025
Nina Jensen likes a long run in the Northumberland countryside, so this event certainly fitted the bill:
“The Northumnrian is a triathlon held in Kielder however this year Events of the North added a couple of trail events to the mix 20k (actually 27k!) and 50k (short changed at 48k ?) I opted for the 50k as thought it would be a good challenge after my holiday (although i didn’t run as much as planned!).
After a nice early start I arrived at Kielder and was checked in by former Olympian Aly Dixon (who was also the lead bike) and then sat down to watch some of the ironman athletes finishing their swim. Oh I also met new member Sarah (Williamson, who was volunteering) at the bag drop too.
Both events went off at the same time and headed towards Bull Crag, so plenty of elevation, before following some black mountain bike switchbacks and back to the start. The 50K then joined the triathletes on their run leg which was a 6.5 mile loop that we did twice. Not so much elevation this time but by then the heat was punishing and the field had thinned out meaning there were stretches when I was running on my own. After doing my 2 loops, I headed to the finish where I got my medal and a drink ( we’d already got our goody bag and t shirt at the start) and after cleaning off the midges that had stuck to my repellent I headed back up hill to the car for the drive home. All in all a grand day out!”
Nina finished in 27th place in a time of 5:45:16.
