The Terry Welsh Wall of Fame

The one and only Terry Welsh, a true Claremont legend (See here), had a tremendous record of running in every Great North Run from its inauguration in 1981 up to, and including, 2023 before his body finally convinced him that he had to stop. To commemorate this feat, and to mark his contribution to North East running. Cotswold Outdoors on Northumberland Street have created “The Terry Welsh Wall of Fame” where all 43 of his GNR t-shirts are displayed.

Our secretary, Cate Walker, treasurer David Devennie and Terry’s brother, John, were present at the unveiling. It is an impressive tribute to an impressive man – do go to see it if you have the chance.

‘Terry’s Wall’ is next to the running machine on the 1st level.

The photos also show Cate and John holding the new trophy that will be presented to the winners of the quarterly handicap knockout competition, now renamed as the “Terry Welsh Cup” in his honour.
