Beer Mile, 29th May 2026
The Annual Rose Hawkswood Beer Mile was won by … Rose Hawkswood!
Ten runners/drinkers assembled at City Stadium on a beautiful evening for this year’s event, with a variety of different beers as allowed by “Claremont rules”. Drinking stations prepared, and a warm-up jog around the track by some, and the first cans were opened. First out of the block was guest Sam, emptying his can in a matter of seconds. Til Weber was next off and soon took the lead, a lead which he held until the end of the second lap with Sonam Wangdi not far behind.
However, it is not always the fastest runners who win the Beer Mile. Til now hit the “liquid wall”, struggling to drink his next can, and Sonam’s drinking was also slowing. By the start of the last lap, Rose’s superior drinking skills had come to the fore and she was first to start running. She opened up a good lead before Sonam could set off to chase her, and never really looked in danger of being caught. Sonam held onto 2nd place and Mark Flynn came through to finish 3rd.
