Bamburgh 10k, 14th June 2026

A trio of Claremonters hit the Northumberland countryside today. Lynne Cornell reports:

“As per last year I stayed at Budle Bay the night before the run and as I heard the wind howling round the caravan during the night, I wondered what the race conditions would be like. It could have been the volume of chips consumed in Seahouses (carb loading!) the night before also keeping me awake.

As I walked into Bamburgh along the golf course conditions seemed to have settled slightly. I wish all journeys to the start of a race are as picturesque as this, with views over the beach and Bamburgh Castle.

As I arrived, I bumped into Janet and Monty (Monty wasn’t running! A friend of Janet’s was going to be looking after him). After I collected my number I bumped into Hazel in the cricket pavilion which was the race HQ.

It felt quite cool outside as I headed to the start outside the Lord Crewe Arms and I was pleased I had gloves on – this is June after all! Then we were off up Front Street to the Victoria Hotel, where we turned left into Ingram Road.

The route is circular, on roads, with very high hedges and no views until the final 2k, where we were rewarded with views of Bamburgh Castle. The wind blew us along the first 6k but I think we all knew this would end and it did when we turned north into a stiff breeze.

Then walked back to the pavilion with Hazel and collected my bag. Then the lovely walk back along the golf course to the caravan. A good morning out.”

As usual, Lynne fails to mention winning her age category! Well done also to Janet for doing the same, and Hazel achieving a great 2nd.
