Claremont By-The-Numbers: 2025/26
Disclaimer: this is just a bit of statistical fun for those interested, there are many factors that influence how much or little an individual will have run for the club over the last year, whether they be family commitments, working hours, or unfortunate injuries. Equally, no-one is expected to take part in competitions, we encourage participation only to the point that it suits you, and that you enjoy it. Number of appearances for the club does not equal level of dedication, there are plenty of people who have put in great efforts for the club as organisers, run leaders, drivers etc, and a variety of behind-the-scenes roles, which are as, if not more important when it comes to ensuring things run smoothly.
2025/26 saw 69 adults and 2 juniors represent Claremont Road Runners across 9 relay and 9 cross-country events. 9 of these runners were making their debuts.
Ignoring the unsurprising stat of the team captains having made the most appearances, they were followed by Lena Lou and Mark Flynn with 11 total each.
In cross-country, Sarah Kerr ran 8 times, only missing the North East Championships in December, while Mark, David Lydall and Laurie Johnson all turned out 6 times for the men. In the Harrier League specifically, Sarah and daughter Charlotte were the only runners to take part in all 6 fixtures, with David topping the men’s table after only being absent for the opener at Thornley Hall Farm.
Acknowledging the imbalance of the women needing 4 runners for a team while the men need 6, the ladies consistently put out 2 full teams in all but one Harrier League fixture, managing 3 at Thornley. The men have always been a little behind in this regard, but managed to field a full team at all events except Lambton, where they really suffered due to an injury epidemic in the build-up.
Lena, Laurie and Lucy Keating all attended 6 relays, though Lena’s feat could be argued as more impressive, owing to her youthful ineligibility for the Masters. As is customary, our biggest attendances were at the Gordon Smith and Good Friday Relays, 30 runners showing up for both.
