The Claremont wedding edition. What is the best way to spend the first morning of your married life? With a parkrun of course! That is what newlyweds Cate and Laurie chose to do, and with the sun shining in a clear blue sky over Alnwick Castle, they had the perfect setting for it. Although Izzy Neatrour shot off to finish impressively as first female, the newlyweds went at a more genteel pace, and were accompanied by Claremont friends and other wedding guests who were glad of the excuse to take it easy! I am sure that their married life will be punctuated by, or perhaps even planned around, many more Saturday morning 5Ks together.
Elsewhere, there was the usual spread around the North East, a couple of forays north of the border and a couple slightly further afield to continental Europe. The Wards, Lucy and Rob, ran at Lochend Woods in Dunbar for the first time, while Clare Jeffray was also a first-timer, a bit inland from Dunbar, at the delightful Vogrie Country Park.
Maria Oranges turned up in Copenhagen, while our other European adventurer was Lucy Keating who did us proud in Germany, finishing as second lady in Kiel.
Mark Flynn recorded the only Claremont PB this week, running at Riverside, and Harry Mawdsley was 2nd at Birkenhead,. However it was the Claremont ladies who really impressed. Catherine Young matched Lucy in finishing second, while Heather Steel and Lynne Cornell joined Izzy to make it a trio of first female finishers this week, winning at Gateshead and Leazes respectively.
