Unsung Hero of the Year Award, North East Regional Volunteer Awards Evening , Friday 2 October

I think everyone at Claremont Road Runners values the time, effort and dedication that Gill Milne gives to the club, so it was nice to see her get wider recognition at this awards ceremony. This was Gill’s take on the whole affair:

“It was a lovely surprise to be put forward by the club for this award and I really appreciate the effort that Anton and others must have put into the nomination process. Anton had assured me that I wouldn’t actually win anything so nothing to worry about – I just needed to turn up with a plus one, follow the smart casual dress code and enjoy the evening. So, I did my best to scrub up and obviously took Tom with me. Unfortunately, Anton couldn’t attend due to his ongoing recovery which was probably just as well, because as the evening progressed it became obvious that everyone was going to be called up and asked questions about what they did for their club. Yikes!

Still, I got presented my award by a proper athlete (apologies to Harry who handed out Jamie’s Claremont Christmas Awards last December) and I now have a trophy to display that is bigger than any of Tom’s.

Once again many, many thanks to Anton and everyone else who took the time to nominate me.”
