Magnificent venue with races starting and finishing with the backdrop of the Castle and River Aln and taking in the best parts of Hulne Park, the private estate of the Duke of Northumberland. The Half ventures further into the Park.
One of the most scenic running events in the UK, the route takes in a working Fish Quay, the River Tyne, Tynemouth Priory and Castle, and a long stretch of coastline before finishing at St. Mary's Lighthouse in Whitley Bay.
The race is run from Blyth Quayside to Seaton Sluice and back, along public footpaths and cycle ways, with a short section on closed roads. The course is officially certified; it’s flat and provides an excellent chance of fast times. Athletes compete in individual age categories. For example a Male over 50 will not qualify …
The run starts on the beach at South Shields Pier and follows a superb scenic route along the cliff paths past Marsden Rock and Souter Lighthouse. It rejoins the beach at Whitburn and finishes at Roker Pier in Sunderland.
Claremont have been asked to provide a team of volunteers for this event.
