Cross-Country Season 2022/23

A message from your team captains:

It’s good to have so many runners being registered with the NE Harrier League for the new cross-
country season. Cross-country races are a great opportunity to get involved with the club, to get out in
the great outdoors, and to test your fitness and hone your performance in some challenging
conditions over the winter months! It really is a team effort on and off the course, with points to be
scored towards the team’s league position, and getting involved in making it all happen.

The club committee hopes to have a small pool of runners to take turns in leading the team at the
various races so if you’d like to get involved in that and find out more, please get in touch with the
Team Captains, or speak to one of the committee. The club’s ability to be represented at these events
relies on members looking after the pre-event tasks and all help is welcome.

The cross country races are so enjoyable because of the team getting together on the day and there
are lots of ways to get involved and help out: offering lifts to other runners, putting up and taking down
the tent, bringing some refreshments, taking photos for the club album, and of course, cheering on the
runners. The biting wind, driving sleet, and shivering knees all fade into insignificance against the
shared experience of working out how to get a damp tent neatly folded back into its holdall –
particularly when fuelled by the delights of the unofficial Claremont Bake Off team!

For each event there will be an opportunity to sign up on spond to run and offer a lift, to indicate you
will need a lift, or be making your own way. Details of location and timing will be firmed up
beforehand. Please get the dates in your diary so check the cross-country page on the website. If you
can’t make the first race, you can still register and get your number for the season.
So thanks in advance to all the volunteers and here’s to a successful season!

PS: If you forget the dates, they can be found under Club Info/Club Races: Cross-Country & Relays.
