Hexham Sundowner, 17th July 2024

The Hexham Sundowner has both a 5K and a 10K race, This was a local race for Lucy Ward who sends us this summary:

“Hexham sundowner 10k had been rescheduled from October when it was cancelled due to flooding.  The night before the race we had localised flooding in Hexham so it seemed doomed again. Therefore it was a lovely surprise to have ‘summer’ show its face on race day.  It was equally a surprise to find 3 fellow Claremont Road Runners on the night -Jim, Cate and Nina, and local YouTuber Al Pepper, so watch out for his race report and some CRR spotting!

We walked the 1k to the start and were shortly on our way towards Corbridge on cycle route 72, which was closed to traffic.  It was ‘gently’ undulating and at the turn around point, we found out there was a slight headwind,  so it felt harder on the return leg together with the climb up and over the bridge back into Tyne Green.

It was a lovely evening and, as ever, Hexham made for a good setting with the sun over the bridge and Tyne and pretty countryside views –  although living there,  we may be biased.

No PB for me,  but definitely one I’d like to run again and try a little harder at!”

There may not have been any PBs, but Nina Jensen picked up a prize for finishing 2nd female in the 5K. I’m surprised at this as, the distances Nina normally runs, the first 5K is just her warm-up. Only joking, Nina. Well done!
