Ronnie Walker Memorial 10k, 21st December 2024
On a day of ferocious winds, nine Claremont Road Runners were probably hoping for some relative shelter in Saltwell Park, not that it would have offered much protection from the gales tearing through the area.
Three-and-a-half laps of the park on what is a considerably up-and-down course, the race takes participants round the lake, past the bowling green, weaving through the depths of the park, before exiting on the west side for a climb up Joicey Road and round the top, re-entering at the north-east corner.
Mark Anderson and Nina Jensen returned from last year, with the former having to make do with ‘only’ being the 2nd Claremonter home on his seventh outing at this event, finishing 20 seconds behind Harry Mawdsley. True to his seemingly unstoppable recent scintillating form, Mark did however pick up 1st place in his age category!
Another category-podium regular, Julie Cross finished 2nd in hers, adding to the great showing from our runners in ‘England’s Oldest Road Race’, everyone more than earning their souvenir shot glasses and whiskey.
