Finally the sun shone on parkrun! Hats, gloves and leggings were ditched by most as we profited from this brief interlude of good weather.
Definitely profiting were Yana Bevan, Niamh Garratt and Lena Lou who all claimed course PBs – on the Town Moor, at Leazes Park and Whitley Bay respectively.
Laurie Johnson and Cate Walker were in Cheshire at Delamere Forest – a course familiar to a number of Claremont Road Runners. We have all commented on what a nice course this is, being on pleasant woodland paths and around a lake. While not flat, it could never have been called hilly. However, Laurie and Cate had to endure the B course, Whinlatter-esque hills and a total climb of 549 feet! Cate, for whom this is near her family home, explained:
“The Delamere B course goes twice zigzagging up and down the Old Pale hill which overlooks Delamere Forest. They had a tree come down in the storm at the end of January and have been waiting for it to be removed, but there has been a delay with getting the right equipment. This was the 4th week of B course!”
Lily Crouzier was furthest from home, down at the tip of Africa in Cape Town, where she did us proud, finishing as 3rd lady. Lily was joined on the podium by two other Claremonters this week- Izzy Neatrour 3rd at Rising Sun, and a 2nd place at Leazes for Harry Mawdsley, even though he doesn’t recommend preparing for parkrun with a night out clubbing!
Lily may have been furthest from home, but as this will be her temporary base for a couple of months, is it really tourism? So the tourist of the week award should probably go to Chris Jones for running on the Isle of Man.
