Northumbria Colour Run, 2nd March 2025
Through Gill Milne, Claremont Road Runners have established a relationship with the Great Run company for providing volunteers. Although not a Great Run event, it was the team there who suggested using us for this event. Gill explains:
“The Colour Run is a charity event in aid of Children’s Cancer North organised by students at Northumbria University as part of their degree course. Claremont were asked if we could provide volunteers so 6 of us duly stepped up – Laurie, Tom, Paul Jameson, Cate, Lynne and myself. The other 4 were our regular volunteers Sue and Verity plus husband Angus and Lynne’s mate Susan.
Now Lynne and Susan had done the run before so knew exactly what to expect – basically powder paint flying all over the place. As the photos show, our Green Goddesses were very enthusiastic participants at the “Colour Stations” along with Sue, Verity and Angus. Laurie seemed to escape the worst of it by taking photos while Tom and Paul were traditional marshals which meant they were pretty cold by the end having been put in position 90 minutes before the race started! Cate and myself were at the start/finish but didn’t escape as we had to help sort out the paint for the warm up!
Still the participants seemed to enjoy it and hopefully lots of money has been raised for a fantastic charity. We will be looking for volunteers for 5 more events this year which will all help raise money for the club so please help out if you can – details coming soon and no paint guaranteed.”
