Port of Blyth 10k, 6th April 2025
Cate Walker sums up a successful morning for a Claremont quartet:
“I can’t think of more perfect conditions for today’s Port of Blyth 10k. A stunningly clear blue sky, a very light wind, around 10 degrees, and lots of smiling support, including, as a lovely surprise, Tom and Gill!
I had done this race the previous year and that time we had battled a gale and fluke hailstorm, so this one felt extra calm in comparison.
Calm, but definitely not relaxed as I was pushing myself around the course with the aim to break my 10-month-old 10k PB. So, despite the above mentioned perfect conditions and a sea view that would have caught my breath if it wasn’t labouring to keep me going, I didn’t feel able to take the metaphorical foot off the gas.
During the last 2km especially I was feeling every single step, but I still really enjoyed it and was rewarded with around a minute and a half off my course time from last year, and 17 seconds off my overall 10k PB.
It was an absolute delight to be able to run again with Laurie, who donned the Claremont vest for the first time since August, and had a huge role in me getting the time I did. Lynne and Hazel made up the Claremont quartet, and also finished with fantastic times. A wonderful morning overall!”
