Can you think of a better way to start the year than with a parkrun – especially a parkrun by the seaside on a nice, dry, bright morning! I can’t … and a lot of Claremont Road Runners agreed with me as some twenty of us went to Blyth South Beach to do just that. Although it was the first time at Blyth for most us, 4 of those returning recorded course PBs. A very enjoyable morning run was had by all – and while most headed off in search of a cafe and a hot drink, a few brave (or should that be foolish?) souls went for a dip in the North Sea (or at least a paddle!).
Luke Woodend ventured even further up the coast to Newbiggin-by-the-Sea, but Heather Steel and Clare McKitterick stayed inland to run at Herrington Country Park (where Heather also recorded a PB).
First to celebrate the arrival of a new year would have been those in a land down under where women glow and men plunder, and Fred and Lucas did run at South Beach Recreation Reserve parkrun. Technically, I don’t suppose they are members anymore as I can’t imagine them renewing their subs … it is a long way to come for a Monday night run!
