After the mini-heatwave that accompanied the end to the cross-country season last Saturday, it felt like winter had returned as a cold wind blew across the region. However, the weather didn’t stop some great performances – particularly at our Leazes ‘home’. Sarah Taylor smashed her previous best time by nearly 2 minutes, but the PB machine that is Lena Lou went much further. Lena knocked an amazing 5½ minutes off her course PB, which was set way back in 2019!
Although not classed as a PB as it was his first visit to Rising Sun, Mark Flynn recorded his quickest ever parkrun, improving his time by over 50 seconds. Catherine Young also knocked more than 30 seconds off her previous best at Fulwell Quarry, though this only secured her the 2nd female slot on a course where she is frequently 1st!
North of the border, there was also a PB for Alex Harding on his 2nd visit to Whitekirk Hill, which appears to be a small parkrun in a nice, rural location between North Berwick and Dunbar. Although Alex was our only runner to venture away from the North East to other parts of Britain, ‘Tourist of the Week’ goes to Oana Sebedan who turned up in South Africa to run what was only her 3rd ever parkrun.
