With the first Harrier League cross-country fixture of the season taking place later on at Wrekenton, Claremont attendance at parkrun was slightly thinner on the ground compared to last week.
There were no fewer than 7 Claremonters’ volunteering at Leazes Park, Mungai Wairia earning an impressive 100th volunteer credit. There they witnessed Fred Besse shave another 3 seconds off his PB, making that 3 in his last 5 parkruns. Fred himself expressed surprise at this, admitting he hadn’t done any running in the last 10 days, and had felt it nothing more than a solid, steady run. Maybe taking extended time-off is the way to go…
Not to be outdone in the incremental improvement stakes, Nikki Szlovak knocked 2 seconds off her PB at Riverside in Chester-le-Street, but just missed out on making it three 1st lady finishes in a row. Izzy Neatrour also finished as 2nd lady, while clocking a course PB at Jesmond Dene.
As usual, there were a few club members dotted around other North East parkruns. Arthur Liu could be found a little further south at Keswick, but this was somewhat eclipsed by Tom and Gill, over a thousand miles away at Mensola parkrun in Florence, Italy. Not content with that, they both walked away with the records for their age categories, congratulations both of you!
