Team Captain’s Award Winner 2025: Mark Anderson

Following Holly Porter’s win in 2024, this season’s Team Captain’s award went to one of our most consistent stars: Mark Anderson.

Mark continues to go from strength to strength in his running, despite not quite being fresh out of high school, now regularly running sub-18 minute parkruns, close to 3 hour marathons, and even fitting in the odd Ultra here and there.

Only two people have made one more competitive appearance in the Claremont vest than Mark over the past year, showing peerlessly impressive commitment and enthusiasm, especially considering he has to fit it around important work and family duties.

Being a member of Claremont isn’t all about who’s the fastest, but Mark is frequently picked as first leg in relays in recognition of his speed as one of our quickest, and was comfortably the swiftest Claremonter in another truncated cross-country season, finishing 15th vet in the individual standings from a field of hundreds. He was also once again an ever-present in the North Shields Poly Grand Prix series.

Further leading by example, Mark is a regular run leader on Monday nights, and has stepped up to offer assistance to the team captains when needed, including helping organising the cross-country end of season meal.

Last but not least, a laid-back and humorous demeanour shows us that despite his achievements, Mark doesn’t take himself too seriously, as above all else, running and being part of a club is supposed to be fun. Congratulations Mark!
