This was the day on which the long awaited trip to Newbiggin-by-the-Sea finally took place! It may was also have been the day when our “summer” came to an end, as fifteen of us headed up the coast to a cold and windy seaside parkrun. For 12 of the 15 this was the first time sampling the delights of Newbiggin, and three of the first-timers made it a sky blue 1,2,3 as Nicki O’Brien, Tara Hipwood and Julie Cross finished in the top female positions. Ailsa Ralph ran her fastest ever parkrun, and there was also, and I seem to write this every week, a PB for Lena Lou! Lena also had a dip in the sea, while the rest of us warmed up in the charming surroundings of Bertorelli’s cafe.
Elsewhere, PBs were hard to come by, but there were 3rd place finishes for fast lads Mark Anderson and Harry Mawdsley at Rising Sun and Jesmond Dene respectively.
Chris Jones has been getting around a bit lately, and this week he turned up at Redcar. Aoife Monaghan trod the well-worn path over to Keswick, while Rose Hawkswood was on familiar ground at Coventry. Alex Harding furthest from home, down in Hampshire, where he became the first Claremonter ever to run at Basingstoke.
